Art :: Midtown Nights Artwalk
Past Event : 04-29-2010
Midtown Nights Artwalk event feature local artists of the Reno-Tahoe area. It was held in the Midtown area of Reno on South Center street. The event was free. Our arts and culture program volunteers participated this event by performing Turkish water marbling (Ebru) and Turkish calligraphy arts in front of a diverse crowd.In addition to our visual art performances, Batyr Odeyev, played dutar, a traditional long-necked two-stringed lute found in Central Asia and South Asia.
Turkish water marbling (Ebru) is formed by drawing designs with dye on top of water and then carefully placing paper on the surface of the water in order to absorb the dye. Turkish calligraphy is a unique artistic creation although calligraphy itself is not of Turkish origin. It, basically, is the writing of Latin letters applied within the esthetics of Calligraphy, which has received interest to a certain degree in the last 30 years.
