Seminar :: Ibn al-Haytam: First Scientist

Women in Dialogue, Sierra Foundation and UNR Graduate Student Association organized a seminar "Ibn al-Haytam: First Scientist" on March 11, 2010 at University of Nevada, JCSU. After the program, Bradley Steffens signed his new book, Ibn al-Haytam: First Scientist.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Bradley Steffens
Bradley Steffens has been writing and publishing nonfiction books for children and young adults for more than 20 years. Working closely with publishers such as Greenhaven Press, Lucent Books, Morgan Reynolds, and Erickson Press, he has crafted each of his books to complement the curricula being taught at the book's reading level. Now he has developed study questions and answer keys for each book, creating supplemental texts ideal for home schooling. Steffens' books have received many honors and awards. California Readers, a nonprofit organization that works with the Los Angeles Unified School District to promote literacy, has chosen six of his titles to be part of the California Collection: Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist, J.K. Rowling, Giants, Cyclops (with Don Nardo), Cartoonists (with Robyn M. Weaver), and The Trial of Charles Manson (with Craig Staples). His 2004 title, Censorship, was a finalist for the San Diego Book Award for Best Children's & Young Adult Nonfiction Book. His Giants won that award in 2005, and his J.K. Rowling garnered the prize in 2007. J.K. Rowling also received the Theodor S. Geisel Award for the best published book by a San Diego County author in 2007.
